questions?
I know you have questions - I would too. Here’s a brief list of questions I get asked most often.
How long have you been a photographer?
I first picked up a camera when I was 13 and have been doing it ever since! When I was younger, I used to shoot a lot of landscapes but have since narrowed my interests to editorial portraits, weddings and engagements. I’ve been shooting professionally for 6 years.
what the heck is boudoir?
bou·doir /ˈbo͞oˌdwär/ noun French
Boudoir literally translated means a woman's bedroom or private room. Boudoir photography is defined as a photography style in which women pose partially clothed or in lingerie. Traditionally, the first thing that comes to mind when people hear boudoir is pin-up or air-brushed over-the-top sexy photos. While these are well and good, I try to focus on the more natural parts of you - your true Self. These photos are used as a way to document you just as you are at this exact moment in time. A session with me will do just that. No need to prep or go on a crash diet or exercise marathon for this. These shoots are meant to document YOU and empower YOU in your truest, most badass form. They are some of my favorite photos to take and I find them crazy beautiful, powerful, and raw.
See some examples here.
what are your prices?
I price each of my sessions individually and based on each clients’ need (ie; travel, location, hours, extra planning together, photos desired, second shooter, etc). Mini portrait sessions start at only $200. Weddings start at $2500. For more detailed inquiries, fill out the contact form or send me an email!
Do you have a cancellation fee?
If you have to cancel/reschedule within 48 hours of your scheduled session, a $75 fee will take place.
Do you pick the location(s) of the shoot?
Yes and no — for boudoir, the main priority is that you are comfortable and feel your best in the space we decide on. If you want a shoot outdoors, any suggestions are welcome. If you want to use your own residence, I will ask for some photos to make sure lighting is good and it is consistent with my style as much as possible. If you’d like to rent an AirBnb or motel suite, send me any you like and I’ll “approve” and you can follow through with booking. AirBnb and hotel rooms costs are not included in your session price.
Any locations that are further that 15 miles from Mary’s location are subject to travel a travel fee. See below.
Do you travel? How much would that be?
Yes! I live in Los Angeles, but love to travel. I will be doing some destination weddings this year and would love to do more. I’d love to go wherever you need me! Any necessary travel expenses including but not limited to mileage ($ .50/mi), airfare, rental car, and hotel will be covered by you, the client. I try to set flat rates as to accommodate travel fees. For a custom quote, please inquire.
How does payment work?
I charge a 50% retainer deposit for all shoots at time of booking, then you pay the second half midway before your shoot, regardless of when booked. Deposits are non-refundable. I accept payment via HoneyBook where you signed your contract or via Venmo @Mary-Kantner.
What about tax?
Depending on state where project is booked, I will apply that specific state’s tax.
Do i have to wear something specific/do my make-up & hair?
If you’d like! This is mostly up to the client and depending on the shoot. If I have a certain idea for a shoot, then I will specify this and the style I wish to achieve, if not, then let’s celebrate what makes you feel beautiful! My style is very natural, so you do you. If you’ve got some scars or stretch marks, join the club ❤️
WHAT ABOUT ordering my PRINTS?
The platform your photo gallery will be sent through has a wide array of print options that are totally customizable and easy to order! From photo albums to cards, calendars, to canvas, there are tons of choices that will be a delightful physical manifestation of this experience and you/your partner. Within your Pic-time gallery, click on a photo, then click the shopping cart icon to include it in your cart. From there, customize exactly how you want your item to look, then simply review and submit payment. The item will be shipped right to your door in a matter of days (and yes, I get a little cut from prints ordered through Pic-time, which we love)!
